1. A fight in the boys bathroom at Firestone Community Learning Center ended in a stabbing

Akron student stabbed at school; district responds

A 14-year-old boy was detained by the school’s resource officer and taken to the police station for questioning.

The victim was 16 and seems to be doing OK after being stabbed Friday. Another boy, 14, might be charged. They were both freshmen. No details on what led up to this.

2. Akron Comicon turns 10

Akron Comicon rounds out 10th anniversary with crowds and star-studded lineup

Everyone is a hero at the Akron Comicon and this year this event celebrated its superpower over the years with its 10th anniversary.

3. Should Akron cops be supervised by citizens?

Akron voters will soon decide on Issue 10, a permanent civilian police oversight board

Issue 10, which would codify a police oversight board in the city charter, was sparked by the fatal police shooting of Jayland Walker, an unarmed Black man.

Lots of people think so, but Mayor Dan Horrigan opposes the charter amendment Akron voters will decide tomorrow. The problem, he says, is that the police have contracts that allow them to investigate issues themselves without external oversight. (Perhaps the contracts are the problem then?)

4. Akron needs help designing a logo for its 200th birthday

City seeks artist to create logo for Akron’s 200th anniversary in 2025

The artist chosen to create the logo will be awarded $2,500.

5. Two University of Akron professors are suing for discrimination

University of Akron discriminated against two professors during 2020 layoffs, lawsuit says

Two professors in the University of Akron's College of Business Administration accuses the university of discrimination during lay offs at the university in 2020.

They allege the university picked them for layoffs because of their race. One is Nigerian. The other is Indian.
